ADP (Adenosine Di-Phosphate) is the state of an ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate) after it is broken down via cellular respiration and before it has been given enough energy to bond back into ATP. When you break down an ATP into an ADP, it releases energy, which means, therefore, that turning an ADP into an ATP requires energy given by nutrients transported into the cell.
